Anthony Kraus
Anthony
read Music at Bristol
University, where
he was University Organ Scholar, and conductor of the University
Chamber Choir and Orchestra. Subsequent studies as a répétiteur
at the Guildhall
School of Music and Drama resulted
in him winning the Ricordi Prize for conducting, followed by
a year at the National Opera Studio in London.
Since then he has worked for English Touring Opera, New Youth Opera, and various other opera companies. He has also been a regular coach at music summer schools, including the Royal School of Church Music and the Finchley Children's Music Group. He has performed throughout the UK and Europe, both as a pianist and organist.
He attended the Academia at the Rossini
Opera Festival 1999 in
Pesaro, Italy, and in 2000 he spent four months working as a
resident coach for the young singers' programme in association
with the Opéra
du Rhin in Strasbourg.
In August 2000 he was
trainee répétiteur at English
National Opera,
and later became a member of the
full-time music staff.
Anthony left ENO in 2003 to take up a new position as Chorus Master of Opera North. Since joining the company he has conducted the chorus in many concerts. He has also been assistant conductor on The Thieving Magpie in 2005.
