Gillene Butterfield


Gillene is originally from Wiltshire. She studied at Trinity College of Music School and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has been a full time member of Opera North since 2006.
Her stage roles include: Lucy in The telephone for Grimeborn Festival, Micaela in Carmen for SCO Opera, and Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro for Guildford Opera.

Opera North Roles: Second Woman: Dido &Aeneas, Despina: Cosi Fan Tutte, Zorah: Ruddigore, Marsha: The Queen of Spades. She created Rosaura the Puppet in The Adventures of Pinocchio and most recently starred as Julie Jordan in Opera North’s acclaimed new production of Carousel in Leeds, on tour and a summer season at the Barbican Theatre, London.

Gillene has also performed with Opera Holland Park, Opera Minima, British Youth Opera, the National Youth Music Theatre and at the Salzburg Festival, Bregenz Festival, Buckingham Palace, The Linbury Studio and the Handel House Museum.
Gillene was recently married in July to Nicholas Butterfield a baritone in the chorus of Opera North.
