Rachel Broadbent
Principal Oboe
Rachel studied with Jonathan Kelly and George Caird at the Birmingham Conservatoire where she won the Birmingham and Midland Institute Woodwind Prize and the Rollason Award for Performance before being chosen to perform an Albinoni Double Concerto with George Caird: in 1995, postgraduate study continued with Richard Simpson and Kieron Moore at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
In recent years Rachel has worked with many orchestras and ensembles including the Southern Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Brandenburg Sinfonia, New London Orchestra and Mozart Festival Orchestra. As a soloist she gives regular recitals with her accompanist Kevin Vockerodt and has performed a variety of baroque concertos with the Southern Sinfonia.
In addition to her busy performance schedule she is a dedicated teacher, encouraging the next generation of oboists at the Guildhall School of Music Junior Department as well as at a wide range of schools across London and the Home Counties.
Her impressively wide-ranging career is complemented by being a published arranger and running her own reed-making business – Chase Oboe Reeds – for oboists around the country.
