Marilyn Has been with the company from the very First show
Marilyn Hill Smith trained at the Guildhall School of Music in London and made her debut with English National Opera as Adele, Die Fledermaus. For the company her diverse roles included Susanna, Marriage Of Figaro, Zerbinetta, Ariadne Auf Naxos, Chief Of Police in the British premier of Ligeti`s Le Grand Macabre.
She has sung major roles for WNO, (Musetta and Constanze). For the Royal Opera at Covent Garden and in Los Angeles (1st Niece).
For New Sadlers Wells Opera the title roles in the Gypsy Princess, Countess Maritza and Martha, and Gianetta Gondoliers, Angele Count Of Luxemburg, and Rose Maybud Ruddigore. For Central Festival Opera Rosalinde Die Fledermaus Countess The Marriage Of Figaro.
For Lyric Opera of Singapore the title role in The Merry Widow and Rosalinde Die Fledermaus. For Canadian Opera in Toronto Yum Yum Mikado and Cunegonde in Bernstein's Candide which she also sang for
Scottish Opera and later at the Old Vic, a production that was televised and won the Olivier Award for Best Musical. Marilyn sang with the new D’Oyly Carte Opera Company on their British tours and in Los Angeles. More recently with Carl Rosa Opera Company in Die Fledermaus
For the English Bach Festival, she performed roles by Handel, Purcell, Rameau, and Monteverdi. Marilyn has sung early French music at the Palace of Versailles to Gilbert and Sullivan at the Hollywood Bowl, sung at the Promenade Concerts, and has often joined Richard Bakers 'Music Cruises' aboard P&O's "Sea Princess".
She broadcasts frequently on BBC Radio 2, being a particular favourite of Friday Night is Music Night. Television inc.: Channel 4's innovative Series Top C's And Tiaras and the Queen Mothers 90th birthday celebrations. Her many commercial recordings reflect her versatility, with works from Rameau to Ivor Novello, Her award winning recordings of Treasures of Operetta have been acclaimed worldwide.
