Mark Langley
Director, Writer and Compere
Mark
is Lecturer at The Arden School of Theatre, where he works as
a voice coach and director.
In 1990, in Sheffield, he established The Company and as Artistic Director, he directed some 20 plays in 7 years. His favourite productions included: Noises Off, Nicholas and Alexandra (co-written with Kate Hannam), Equus, A Man for All Seasons, The Crucible and Private Lives. Concurrently, he directed productions for South Yorkshire Opera, including: The Mikado, The Yeomen of the Guard, Tosca and Carmen.
In musical theatre, Mark has directed Gigi,
The King and I, The Sound of Music,
My Fair Lady and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum for the Danum Theatre Company, Camelot for Gawsworth Hall Open Air Theatre and productions of
Cabaret and Godspell.
In 2000, he formed Complimentary Productions to produce Shirley
Valentine, which opened
at The Crucible Studio in Sheffield. Mark works nationally
and internationally as a freelance Voice Coach, having worked with
Ann-Margaret, Joe Absolom, Sinead Cussack, Barbara Dickson, Steve
Houghton, Ian Kelsey, Kay Mellor and Paul Moriarty. He works
regularly for The Crucible Theatre, Contact Theatre and Stoke New
Vic. Amongst others, productions have included: A
View from the Bridge, South Pacific, Big Maggie, Top Girls, The Man
Who Had All the Luck, Somewhere the Shadow and Carry On Cleo, Camping,
Emmanuel and Dick.
Other theatre work has included award winning productions of Singin’ in the Rain (West Yorkshire Playhouse – later transferred to the RNT, and national tour) the West End production of Spend! Spend! Spend! and Compass Theatre’s national tour of The Death of a Salesman. Film and television credits have included: The Lakes (BBC), Secrets of the Stone Age (C4) and A Good Thief (YTV) and the film Dream.
Mark works nationally as a compère and director of concerts, and he has written a book to accompany his work called Speak the Speech.
