PATRICIA LEONARD - Mezzo Soprano
A Feast of Gilbert and Sullivan - Last night at the Proms
and Mrs Pomfrey in Christmas Toy Story
Patricia began her career as a solo recitalist and oratorio singer before Joining the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company in 1972, becoming principle mezzo soprano in 1974 playing Mad Margaret, Lady Saphir, Leila, Hebe, Edith, and from 1977 all the major Contralto roles until the company closed in 1982.
During this time Patricia performed regularly for members of the Royal Family including playing Hebe in the Royal command performance at Windsor Castle of HMS Pinafore to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. She also made several recordings for the company and appeared in the film of HMS Pinafore made at Elstree Studios. Patricia particularly enjoys working in television and has made appearances in plays, films, Commercials, Pebble Mill and Omnibus in England, and various programmes in America, Australia and New Zealand.
Patricia is now enjoying a welcome return to the Oratorio and concert platform, performing at the Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall And St David’s Hall Cardiff, several of these concerts were broadcast by the BBC.
She has sung Marcellina Marriage Of Figaro, and concerts of Opera, Operetta and Music Hall on three World Cruises for Cunard. Concert work has included G&S, Ivor Novello, Five Sing Broadway, Mr Gilbert & Mr Sullivan with Richard Baker and a series of Prom Concerts with the National Concert Orchestra and The British Philharmonic Concert Orchestra. She also appears regularly at Gawsworth Hall and the Buxton International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival. Pat recently appeared as Mrs Pumfrey, in MLP’s Christmas Toys at Newcastle Theatre Royal and Leeds Grand, and has just completed HMS Pinafore for Carl Rosa Opera Company, playing Little Buttercup alongside Colin Baker’s Sir Joseph Porter.
