The Fairey Brass Band

MLPSixteen times British Open Champions and Eight times and current winners of the title 'National Champion Band of Great Britain', are just a few of the successes of the Williams Fairey Band. Past winners of the BBC's 'Best of Brass' and twice holders of the 'Granada Band of the Year' title add further touches of distinction. The band is also proud of its successes at the annual Whit Friday March Contests, obtaining in 1987, a record ten first prizes, two seconds and a third prize out of thirteen contests attended. All this and more makes up the pedigree of what is undoubtedly one of the world's leading brass bands.

The Band were 'double champions' in 1993, being the holders of both the National
and British Open titles, and completing a unique 'treble' by adding the 1994 European Championship to its list of honours.

The Band is in constant demand for concerts both at home and abroad. Previous tours include Canada, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Holland, Belgium and Luxembourg. It also makes frequent appearances on radio and television and has produced many commercial recordings.

Since its formation the Band has had an illustrious line-up of conductors, including Harry Mortimer, Leonard Lamb, Kenneth Dennison, Richard Evans, Walter Hargreaves,
Geoffrey Brand, Roy Newsome, Major Peter Parkes, James Gourlay, Howard Snell
and currently Alan Withington.

Founded in 1937 from a group of employees, the Fairey Aviation Works Band.
From its early days the band achieved many musical successes under the brilliant direction of Harry Mortimer, CBE, who was Musical Director for thirty three years and maintained close links for most of the Band's history.

Over recent months the Band has achieved recognition outside the confines of the Brass Band movement with its involvement in the "Acid Brass" project. Under this banner the Band has played in rock/pop festivals, both at home and abroad, and recorded a single with the group K.L.F. The Band has always maintained its base at Heaton Chapel, Stockport.

The band is delighted to announce its new partnership with FP Music Publishers. The company is a subsidiary of Foster Partners Asia, and their sponsorship will financially secure the band for the next four years and help to create new projects and events.

The Band, being keen to keep up with the latest technology, has its own website which can be accessed by clicking the link below:
